Promoting Tourism Luxury In Canada
The massive building occupies the site of Handyman Palace, also known as ‘Old Palace’, built in 1786 for Governor Frederick Handyman opposite the Palace of St. Louis (home of the administrative and governmental departments of the colonial government.
Lord Duffer in had numerous beautification projects, had the idea to build a luxury hotel was eventually built by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company. The company asked the architect Bruce Price, the construction of a large French-style castle in the historic city center in order to confirm the origins of the city and promote luxury tourism among the passengers who used the service on its trains.
The hotel opened in 1893 and thereafter a long list of celebrities has stayed at any of its 600 rooms.
The Hotel Palacio de Frontenac has several restaurants, one of which, the Champlain, offers French cuisine and a beautiful view of the city, just as the bar Saint Laurent, with its two fireplaces.
